Wilkins Family

Teresa plotted this surprise for over a month.  As a holiday gift, she set up a portrait session for the whole family while they were visiting from Phoenix for the holidays.  They hadn’t had a portrait of all 13 of them, well, probably ever.  And most of them hadn’t taken professional family portraits together in ages.  What a fantastic present for everyone!  It was wonderful to meet everyone in this family and photograph them up at Evergreen Lake.  We had hoped for a Colorado winter scene as our backdrop, but there was no snow in sight.  Oh well, a frozen lake and log cabin will do, too.  It’s still far more winter-like than Phoenix!

Jenny + John – Engaged!

You can’t always get what you want.  Last week, John and Jenny wanted snow – and lots of it – for their engagement portraits.  I had loads of ideas for snowy engagement photos at the ready.  Chautauqua Park in Boulder was completely snow-free.  We were sad.  For all of 2 minutes.  Because instead of lots of pretty white snow, we were blessed with gorgeous morning light and beautiful dried grasses.  Plan B doesn’t get much better than that.

Hopefully John and Jenny will get their wish for snow on their wedding day.  They are planning a wintery wedding downtown in February, which I am so excited to be a part of.  Happy Monday everyone!

Beautiful stuff!

Jann + Marty – Married!

With 25 of their closest friends and family in attendance, Jann and Marty were married at Chautauqua Park in Boulder on Saturday evening.  Jann’s father officiated the ceremony, which was filled with personal touches and emotional moments.  The ceremony was followed by a champagne toast and relaxed dinner.  The entire wedding felt intimate and had a distinct Colorado style – precisely what Jann and Marty wanted.

I adore winter weddings – I so rarely got to shoot them in St. Louis.  I only wish we had had a touch more snow on Saturday for that really wintery look (although I’m sure Jann and Marty were glad it wasn’t quite so cold!)  Nevertheless, Chautauqua was beautiful, and I truly enjoyed being a part of Jann and Marty’s wedding.  Congratulations guys!

January Boudoir Marathon

Didn’t get a boudoir shoot done in time for Christmas?  Well now you can do it just in time for Valentine’s Day!  The next Boudoir Marathon will be Sunday January 23, 2011.

Boudoir photos make an excellent gift, presented in a book, as a slideshow, or just as images on their own.  Each session includes an hour long shoot at a boutique hotel, a glass of champagne to calm your nerves, and digital files of your 5 favorite images touched up and ready for printing.  On-location hair and makeup by two talented stylists is available for an additional fee.  The session fee is $200, and a deposit of $50 is required to hold your spot.

San Fernando, Philippines

San Fernando is the surf city of the Philippines.  After our surf adventure in Panama, I was super excited to try it again (only without the wicked sunburn this time.)  Unfortunately, whatever was wreaking havoc on my body had other plans.

By the time we rolled into San Fernando from Sagada, we were exhausted.  A full day of riding buses from city to city had worn us down.  But it wasn’t until the next day when we both became violently ill that we realized how much.  I have no idea what made us sick – water, bad food, a bug caught in transit, who knows.  But we were both terribly terribly ill.  Stomachs were not happy.  Fortunately, John is awesome.  He trekked out and found us a super swank beachside resort to stay at while we recovered.

We don’t normally splurge on beachfront places (with the exception of Boracay), but with the intensity of the previous two weeks and the illness that was draining us both, a seaside haven seemed like perfection.  And it was.  Normally lounging by the pool all day isn’t my thing, but when you’ve been wretching for two days and unable to eat anything solid, it sounds like the best idea ever.  And our fantastic cabana right off the infinity pool overlooking the ocean was only a splurge of about $100 US a night.  Score.

Sadly, I couldn’t enjoy the super steady waves that so many novice surfers were learning on.  But I did enjoy watching them for most of the day, and into the spectacularly orange sunset.  Come on, it’s our honeymoon photos – you didn’t think you’d get out without seeing a sunset, did you?

After three days recovering in San Fernando, we made one more pass through Manila and flew back home.  And so that brings us to the end of our honeymoon photos and stories.  Hope you’ve enjoyed them :)

Happy Friday!
