Vacation heads-up

Yes, I’m going on vacation again – YAY! I’m leaving the 24th of this month for Scandinavia (Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Finland.) I’ll be back August 6th. Just a heads up in case you need something taken care of before then!

Melissa + Chris: Married!

Melissa and Chris live in Chicago, so they actually booked me for their wedding before we met. When I did finally meet Melissa, she told me that once she saw on my blog that I am a yoga instructor she knew I would be a good fit for them. And when I saw her doing yoga in her hotel room before getting dressed for the wedding, I knew they were a good fit for me :)

Since both ceremony and reception were held at Mad Art, we had initially made plans to take photos in Soulard and Lafayette Park. But anyone who was outside on Saturday knows it was crazy hot, and no one wanted to get into a car and go stand in the heat for photos (my camera was even sluggish.) So instead we did all the portraits at the venue, popping in and out of the AC when the humidity became unbearable. I think we got some cute images, and no one melted – I’ll call that a success!

There was so much emotion all day – from tears on both bride and groom during the ceremony to hysterical laughter during the many many toasts – it made for some great images. Thanks to Von for shooting with me. Congrats to Melissa and Chris – I hope they enjoy their two week honeymoon in Spain!

Shannon + Colin

How pretty are Colin’s blue eyes? He’s such a cutie – even when he’s being a total boy with his mouth wide open or his tongue sticking out! His mom, Shannon, wanted to get some photos of the two of them together at Faust Park yesterday, and a few of him alone. At 4 years old he already has a “fake camera smile” just like the rest of us. Fortunately at 4 he’s still susceptible to laughing at the word monkey, so we managed get a laugh out of him for some of the shots. I just love this first one – I hope Shannon does too!

Valerie + Jeff: Married!

Valerie and Jeff were married on Saturday in the Japanese Garden of the Botanical Gardens. It was a hot and humid day, but fortunately the sun hid behind some clouds during their ceremony, keeping the guests a little cooler and creating nice lighting for the photos. We had a pretty short window of time for photos between the ceremony and reception – only 45 minutes to get all of the family, wedding party and couple and walk from the ceremony to Monsanto Hall for the reception. We managed to make it work, even though the ceremony started 15 minutes later than expected. We were just a smidge late for the reception (I hate being late!) but hopefully Val and Jeff will agree it was worth those extra five or ten minutes :)
