Jenny + John – Married! (Part One)

“Happy Birthday!” a bystander yelled toward the wedding-attire clad John and Jenny.  He laughed at himself and wandered off down 16th Street Mall, probably proud of himself for being clever to quip such a thing amidst all the cheers of “congratulations.”  Little did that guy know, it actually was Jenny’s birthday.

Jenny celebrated her birthday this year by marrying John in a ceremony at Trinity United Methodist Church in downtown Denver.  Before the ceremony, we took time for a First Look and some portraits on 16th Street Mall.  You might remember John and Jenny’s engagement session, when they hoped for snow and ended up with a sunny beautiful day.  History repeated itself for their wedding on Saturday – they ended up with a 60 degree day that felt more like springtime than the wintery snow scene they anticipated.  Perhaps it didn’t go as planned, but what a fantastic plan B :)

Many thanks to Krista for second shooting with me.  Look for photos of the reception at The Pinnacle Club at the Grand Hyatt tomorrow!

Wow! Beautiful work!

Stasha + Frank – Engaged!

Stasha’s patience waned.  As the wind flung hair across her face for the umpteenth time in 40 minutes, she let out a sigh of frustration.  I can empathize – nothing kills a woman’s self confidence in front of the camera like hair blowing across her face.  (Especially when it gets stuck in your lip gloss.  Ew.)

While Sunday afternoon’s blustery weather put a bit of a cramp in Stasha’s hairstyle, it failed to ruin our shoot.  Frank and Stasha deserve credit for tolerating the freezing cold gusts up at Red Rocks for over an hour.  And I do mean freezing.  The wind may have tested Stasha’s patience, but she never complained, and the two kept smiling through the shivers.  By the end, all of our fingers had frozen nearly to the point of immobility – mine in the shape of a camera-clutching claw.  I must get some fingerless gloves.

Stasha and Frank will be married this fall in Charlotte, likely followed by a honeymoon in Ireland.  I hope the wind stays calmer for their big day in October :)

I really like 083 – great photo, beautiful couple. Plus it reminds me of one of my faves that you took of us! :)

Why do family portraits at home?

Your home makes the perfect portrait backdrop.  I believe this so much that I’ve recently begun requiring portrait sessions for kiddos under 18 months to take place at home.  Why?  Well, I’m glad you asked :)

Comfort New babies (and their parents) often feel most comfortable at home.  Babies know the sights, sounds and smells of their home better than anywhere else, and will simply feel calmer because of it.  New parents find comfort in being able to control the elements and protect their new little one from upset.   Additionally, you’ll have access to every blanket, toy and pacifier your baby uses when you’re at home, making it easier to keep them comfortable without having to schlep everything but the kitchen sink to another location.

Convenience If you get the little one in the car and they either a) scream the whole time or b) fall asleep during the drive and have to be woken up for the shoot, you may have a feisty baby to deal with at the start of your session.  Not ideal.  Scrapping the whole need for transit makes life easier for your whole family – let me do the driving and come to you :)

Reality Kids don’t function on a perfect schedule.  Just because you’ve set aside an hour of your day for portraits doesn’t mean they have.  Chances are good that your kiddo will need a diaper change, feeding, or nap during the time you’ve scheduled.  Should this come up while on location for a shoot, you might have to cut the session short.   If you’re at home when that comes up, it’s no problem – everything you need is right there.  Know that I’m always happy to wait patiently while you attend to your child’s needs to be sure we get great photos.  View full post »

Bachelorette Boudoir Parties

Looking for a unique and fun activity for the day of your Bachelorette Party?  How about a boudoir party?

A friend of mine actually suggested this idea, and I have to say it’s brilliant.  Here’s how it can work.  The day of your bachelorette party we’ll rent a hotel in downtown Denver.  One at a time, you and each of your friends can come by to get their hair and makeup professionally done and do an hour long boudoir shoot with me.  (Don’t worry, you won’t be shooting together, just meeting up afterwards!)

Once your shoots are over, you’ll all look fantastic and feel incredibly sexy.  Take that energy out for a night on the town – and you can even stay in the hotel we rent for the night if you want!  Everyone will end up with amazing shots to take home to their boyfriends/fiancees/husbands, and you’ll have a fantastic gift to give your hubby-to-be before the wedding.

I give discounts for Boudoir Parties, so contact me if you’re interested and want more information!

What an awesome idea, I might need to talk to you about this!

Bring it on St. Louis!

I just received the fourth email this month from a past client in St. Louis wanting maternity/newborn/boudoir photos taken.

Fourth.  Sigh.

I miss my St. Louis clients.  It kills me that I’m missing out on some of your amazing life experiences because I’m currently in Denver!  While I’m planning to go back in June, that just doesn’t seem soon enough.

So here’s your “Show Me State” Challenge.  It’s nearly impossible to make traveling for one photo session worthwhile, but there is strength in numbers.

Anyone in St. Louis thinking about maternity, family, newborn, boudoir, engagement or corporate portraits in February/March/April contact me by February 18th.

Once I’ve sorted out who needs what and when, I’ll schedule a trip to St. Louis ASAP to make it happen.  And if you are one of the first three people to contact me, you get a special “I Heart St. Louis” discount off your session :)
