Venue Hunt: Art gallery weddings

Art galleries make excellent wedding venues.  They have a very unique and nontraditional vibe to them, and the art often creates excellent conversation pieces during the reception.  We researched loads of galleries as potential venues for our wedding for that very reason.  Galleries also have incredible flexibility because you can bring in any outside vendor you like to create exactly the event you desire.  For us, that was a little more decision making than we wanted, so we opted to book here instead.  But if you’re looking for a nontraditional wedding venue with a little creative flair, here’s a list of the spaces I thought were tops.

Artwork Network: This space has beautiful exposed brick and a large, flowing layout.

Fat Tail – Two levels of some gorgeous artwork.  Great for a smaller event.

Nine10 Arts: This green building is managed with the environment in mind, has in interesting industrial feel and a wide variety of art mediums displayed.

Sizzle and Bang: This would be a beautiful space for a ceremony – and you could have the reception at the Space Gallery, which is right next door!

Space Gallery: This space is huge, and has a cool industrial feel with a giant metal staircase and two levels.

Walker Fine Art : Large open space with lots of flexibility.

If you’re looking to visit many venues all at once, try going to a First Friday Walk.  That way you can see a number of spaces full of people and in nighttime lighting to get a more accurate idea of what it would look like for your event.

For those of you in St. Louis, Mad Art is an amazing space for any kind of event (they do some fantastic stuff with lighting.)  Randall Gallery is another great option as it’s really large and has three distinct areas for ceremony, dinner and reception.  To see more art gallery weddings check out Sarah + Dan, Rebecca + Ryan, and Melissa + Chris.
